Parents As Partners

We highly value the partnership we enjoy with our parents and we aim to support parents fully throughout the start of their child’s education. We are inclusive of all families and we support families who have English as an additional language.

Parents are regularly invited in to share their knowledge with children, from First Aid workshops, Diwali Assemblies and rocketry in the garden(!) we believe working together enriches the children’s learning and they take a great deal from this, as do parents.

For Pre Reception and KS1 there are opportunities to join school trips and we even hold a special “Grandparents Day” to celebrate grandparents, other family members and carers. The children and grandparents love this and it has become a staple of the school calendar. Parents are also invited to regular curriculum and parents evenings to discuss their child’s progress. For new parents joining, current parents are happy to share their experience and advice.

The WAPS committee (The White House Parents Association) fosters an active and dynamic school community which includes organising various social activities and events to raise money for charity. WAPS also acts as a forum for parents to raise and discuss school related issues. The WAPS committee meets twice each term and this includes representatives from every class. A member of the Governing body and SLT is always present at these meetings to support the activities of the committee.

Each year the parents, pupils and staff agree on a charity focus. This involves local charities such as Little Village, as well as larger charities such as Cancer Research. The WAPS group organises various charity activities such as movie nights, crafternoons and quiz nights. Parents and pupils show tremendous commitment to fundraising and we are very proud that we help the school donate thousands of pounds to our nominated charities every year.

As well as raising money, the children are also encouraged to donate their time – from visiting an old people’s home, attending lunches in the local church for local elderly and lonely residents, helping with food banks and litter picking.
