Community

At The White House Prep we value the importance of preparing children as future members of society. We work with the local community and have strong links with our local Care Homes, food bank and a homeless charity to name a few. We take part in local events too and are often seen collecting litter, joining forces with ‘Beautify Balham’, to improve local areas.

Every term a group of children will walk to the local church to join their lunchtime club held for local elderly in the community trying to combat loneliness. Our children spend the afternoon chatting and making arts and crafts with the elderly members. The children always ask if they can come next time!

We are very aware how fortunate we are to not only belong to a family support network but to be part of the strong White House family. However, we understand that others are not so fortunate and find themselves alone and in desperate need of a friend. Every year the whole school makes Christmas cards which now appear in Lambeth Age UK Christmas hampers sent to its residents. We also pay visits to a local care home to sing some songs or engage in lively conversation.

We collect termly food bank donations to hand over to the local homeless charity. Some children join their Christmas meal to entertain all attendees with Christmas songs and throughout the year our Senior Choir will pay visits to the charity during a special lunch to provide much needed music. The whole room ends up singing and clapping along!

We also support organisations financially. Substantial funds are raised through events organised by the school and by parents. However, also invest into the children that charity can involve giving your time.

Sustainability

The children at White House grow up in a school where we aim to look after and care for the environment we are all part of. The seed is sown at White House with the hope the care for the environment will continue to grow after school.

Gardening club was recently introduced with children selling their home grown produce to lucky parents! Looking after the environment is part of the school’s curriculum. For example, Year 1 as part of their materials topic in Science hosts a recycled fashion show. Environment Day is a popular part of the school calendar which involves litter picking local areas or the River Thames, a bring and swap clothes sale and a recycled art project.
