House Music

On Thursday 12th February, our annual House Song Competition took place with the theme “Brit Hits”. The event brought together pupils from across the school for an afternoon of singing, choreography and house teamwork.

Led by our Year 6 pupils, who selected the songs and choreographed the actions, the event reflected both creativity and confident leadership, with pupils taking real ownership of their performances from start to finish. There was a strong sense of team spirit as each group supported one another and took pride in representing their house.

The Mini Choir opened the afternoon with The Beatles’ classic, With A Little Help From My Friends, before joining their respective houses for the main event.

Each house delivered a strong and distinctive performance. Drummond sang Walking on Sunshine, Edinburgh performed Viva La Vida, Balmoral gave a lively rendition of Karma Chameleon, and Stirling rounded off the house performances with a confident version of Elton John’s I’m Still Standing. The hard work invested in rehearsals was evident in the thoughtful choreography and enthusiastic singing from every group.

While guest judge Digory Price, Musical Director of the Real Voices Choirs, took time to make his decision, the Senior Choir performed an impressive mashup titled A Celebration of Brit Hits. Seamlessly combining 22 well-known British songs – from Queen’s We Will Rock You and Adele’s Hello to hits by Blur, Oasis, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, One Direction, Bonnie Tyler, Take That and the Spice Girls – the performance showcased the breadth of musical talent across the school and was warmly received by the audience.

Digory praised the high standard of all the performances and commented on how difficult it was to choose a winner. In the end, Stirling House was awarded first place for their confident and well-executed performance.

A big congratulations to every pupil who took part, and to the staff who supported the rehearsals and organisation. Well done also to Stirling House on their victory. We look forward to next year’s competition and another enjoyable celebration of music and house spirit!
