World Book Day 2026
World Book Day 2026 was an exciting and enriching day at The White House Prep School, with children dressing up as their favourite book characters and taking part in a range of activities designed to promote reading for pleasure and creativity.
Each class created a classroom door display inspired by the front cover of their class text, transforming the school into a vibrant celebration of literature. Children and staff embraced the opportunity to dress up and families were reminded that there was no need to purchase anything new, as homemade and imaginative costumes were strongly encouraged. Throughout the day, each class also enjoyed a dedicated library slot, while shared reading sessions paired older pupils with younger children, encouraging collaboration and fostering a shared love of stories.
A variety of engaging activities took place, including a Teacher’s Favourite Books Quiz and separate World Book Day quizzes for KS1 and KS2, which helped to test and extend pupils’ knowledge of literature in a fun and interactive way. One of the highlights of the day was the World Book Day Fashion Show, held in the school garden, where children proudly showcased their creative costumes. The school also hosted a book swap, allowing pupils to exchange books with others in their class or year group and discover new stories.
Key Stage 2 pupils enjoyed a particularly inspiring visit from author Alastair Chisholm, who spoke about his journey to becoming a writer, his life experiences and his creative process. He also introduced his action-packed trilogy, I Am Wolf, I Am Raven and We Are Dragon, captivating pupils and inspiring a deeper enthusiasm for reading and writing.
Overall, the day was a wonderful celebration of books, imagination and storytelling.
