A Special Visit from Rishi Sunak

We are delighted to share the exciting news that former Prime Minister and MP for Richmond & Northallerton, Rishi Sunak, visited Woodentops Nursery last Friday to talk about Maths in the Early Years and in the School.

From the Nursery up, we have made exceptional maths teaching a core part of our curriculum enhancement. Woodentops applied and were selected to take part in the Rethink Maths national trials. Rethink Maths has developed materials to support early years teaching of core mathematical concepts and number sense, alongside strong mathematical talk, all through modelled teaching and imaginary worlds.

Rethink Maths is funded by The Richmond Project – Rishi Sunak’s charity whose mission is to improve national confidence in maths. The visit on Friday saw some of the teaching of the Rethink Maths project in person and to understand why nurseries such as ours are interested in the project.

Founders Sarah Sanger, Laura Randall, Grace McCahery and the McCahery family are very proud to have been chosen for this as it reflects how highly regarded the teaching is. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase Woodentops and talk about the school.
