Year 1 celebrated the end of their Famous Artists topic in style with a memorable “flight around the world” to revisit the incredible artists they have been studying this term.
The classroom was transformed into an imaginary aeroplane, complete with boarding passes for every child. After finding their seats, the children were ready for take-off on an exciting adventure, travelling to Italy, Spain, France, Mexico, the Netherlands, the United States and Japan. Although there was a little “turbulence” at the start of the journey, everyone enjoyed the in-flight hospitality and had a fantastic time exploring the countries that inspired some of the world’s most famous artists.
Throughout the topic, the children discovered a variety of artistic styles and techniques while learning about the lives and work of influential artists. They explored the beautiful Impressionist landscapes of Claude Monet, the expressive Post-Impressionist paintings of Vincent van Gogh, and the bold Cubist creations of Pablo Picasso. They also learned about Georges Seurat and his distinctive Pointillism technique, where tiny dots of colour come together to create detailed images.
The children were fascinated by the achievements of Leonardo da Vinci, whose masterpieces and inventions continue to inspire people today. They also celebrated the work of several remarkable female artists, including Frida Kahlo, Mary Cassatt and Yayoi Kusama, learning how each artist developed their own unique style and made a lasting impact on the art world.
The topic has encouraged creativity, curiosity and a real appreciation for art from around the world. The special celebration was the perfect way to reflect on everything the children have learned and to end the topic with smiles, laughter and plenty of imagination. What a wonderful way to complete an inspiring artistic journey!
